Description from the seller
Charming and refined fall-front desk (bureau de pente / bureau à cylindre) in the Louis XV style, richly crafted using fine cabinetmaking techniques. The piece stands out for its beautiful veneer and geometric inlay featuring diamond patterns and contrasting grain (in a “butterfly-wing” pattern), made from fine woods. The upper section features a shaped drop-front that opens to reveal an interior compartment (letter rack), ideal for storing documents and small items. The desk stands on four elegant, curved cabriole legs, typical of the period, with floral decorative mounts in gilt or burnished bronze on the front knees. A piece of great distinction, perfect for adding a touch of French classicism to a study or elegant living room. In good overall condition, with the usual signs of age and wear (please examine the photos carefully for details of the patina and surface). Structurally sound. Country of origin: France / Italy. The desk is located in Rome and must therefore be collected there. To ensure it is well protected, please bring packing materials, such as double-layer bubble wrap, reinforced cardboard, and packing tape. I am available to arrange shipping if needed (shipping and packing costs are extra).
