Hardcover
103 pages

Some wear on the corners
‘Timeless Beauty’ is different from what we typically expect from the Gallo-Roman Museum in Tongeren. The exhibition shows how provocative nude photos by cult photographer Marc Lagrange engage in dialogue with intriguing texts by Roman authors and beautiful ancient artifacts from the museum’s collection.
The Timeless Beauty exhibition puts female beauty in the spotlight. Beauty of today, represented by more than 50 works by the Belgian photographer Marc Lagrange, but also beauty of the past. Thus you will learn, among other things, how women dressed 2000 years ago, what jewelry they wore, and what was in a Roman beauty case.
The exhibition is arranged in such a way that a dialogue arises between the beauty of now and the beauty of then. Lagrange’s photos mingle with the Roman objects in the museum and poetic texts by classical authors such as Ovid and Sextus Propertius. The result is a duet that seems to give both the old and the new an extra dimension.
Very nice exhibition.
