Chair - Wood - Grotesque

Decorative carved wooden chair, characterized by a compact vertical structure.

Completely repainted in a bright red color (coral/vivid shade).

The tall, shaped backrest features rich carvings with floral motifs, acanthus leaves, heraldic or symbolic elements centrally topped by a leafy pediment. The lower support (legs/footrest) is embellished with a relief-carved grotesque mask (inspired by the "Green Man" style or Renaissance grotesques) with lateral volutes and shaped feet.

Renaissance / Neo-Renaissance style (or Eclectic/Historic Revival). The form recalls the typical Italian Renaissance-inspired high chairs or chairs (often referred to as in the "Dante" or "Savonarola" style for the historical inspiration), enriched with Mannerist and Baroque motifs such as grotesque mascarons and scrolling arabesques with acanthus leaves.

Typically dated to the late 19th century and the early 20th century (eclectic/historic period of imitation antique furniture).
