ALPS - Tinplate Car "Lincoln Premiere - Look Who's Driving" - With original box - To be restored - Japan - 1950s
Description:
Fascinating and rare American lithographed tinplate car produced in Japan in the 1950s by the famous ALPS (Shojo) company. The model reproduces a splendid two-tone Lincoln Premiere Coupe (light blue and blue), equipped with the famous and quirky "Look Who's Driving!" mechanism (Watch who's driving!), in which a small dog peers from the rear window.
The toy is structurally intact and complete, retaining the original clear plastic window glazing and the original dog inside the cabin. The lot includes its precious original vintage cardboard box, beautifully illustrated with well-preserved vintage graphics showing the car in a mountainous landscape.
• Manufacturer: ALPS (Shojo)
• Model: Lincoln Premiere Hardtop Friction Car with Barking Dog
• Period: 1950s
• Origin: Made in Japan
• Dimensions: Length about 22-23 cm (as visible from the ruler in the photos)
Conditions and details:
• Mechanical condition: Intact but in need of servicing. The internal friction mechanism and the dog barking sound device are complete but have been inactive for many years; the gear requires mechanical overhaul and lubrication to restore proper movement.
• Aesthetic condition: Very good vintage condition. The lithography on the bodywork retains a beautiful shine with small and normal signs of time, light surface abrasions, and small scratches compatible with its age. The black bottom chassis is exceptionally clean and well preserved.
• Box: Present and original. Structurally solid with era-era markings and writings on the sides, shows a light patina and minimal signs of edge wear due to age.
A piece of great visual impact and extremely rare to find complete with its original packaging, perfect for enriching collections of Japanese tin cars from the Golden Age.
