AI-assisted summary
Description from the seller
Rare and highly charming vintage lithographed tinplate humming top (pião sonoro), produced in Italy during the late 1920s or early 1930s by the famous manufacturer INGAP (Industria Nazionale Giocattoli Automatici Padova).
The toy features a wonderful, expressive lithographed design on the upper plate depicting various period transport vehicles: biplane aircraft, early open-top race cars, speedboats, and sailboats. The face clearly displays the original trademark stamp "INGAP PADOVA - FAB. IN ITALIA" inside the company's classic diamond-shaped logo. The lot comes complete with its rare, original wooden launching spool painted in red.
• Manufacturer: INGAP Padova (Italy) [1]
• Model: Winding humming top with aeronautical and automotive graphics
• Period: Late 1920s / early 1930s (Pre-war era)
• Material: Lithographed tinplate, metal spindle, wooden spool
• Indicative Dimensions: Top diameter approx. 10-11 cm (measurements verified by the tape measure in the photos)
Condition and Details:
• Aesthetic Condition: Good original vintage condition ("All original"). The upper lithography is well-preserved, glossy, and fully legible, retaining its original tones. It shows normal and widespread signs of time and play, such as minor scratches, light abrasions, and localized oxidation spots—mostly located on the metal spindle and along the lower crimped edges. Unrestored. Original box is not present.
• Mechanical Status: Structurally intact, the top features the classic side vents designed to release air and create the humming sound while spinning. Sold in its current state as a vintage display and collector's item, to be serviced before any actual play.
A nostalgic and historically significant piece for collectors of pre-war traditional Italian tinplate toys. The numerous close-up photographs are an integral part of the description and faithfully display the exact condition of the lot.
Professional, carefully packed, tracked, and insured shipping.
