Description from the seller
Val Saint Lambert – Pair of Bicolour Crystal Perfume Bottles – Valambert Collection – Belle Époque, Art Nouveau, 1908 – Belgium
No Reserve Price
An elegant pair of antique crystal perfume bottles by Val Saint Lambert, belonging to the celebrated “Valambert” garniture de toilette collection, first documented in the 1908 catalogue and later incorporated into the Luxval range.
Created during the Belle Époque, these beautiful bottles reflect the refined Art Nouveau aesthetic, combining elegant proportions with beautifully executed geometric decoration.
Made in two-colour crystal, combining brilliant clear crystal with a warm amber-yellow layer, the bottles feature a particularly attractive interplay of colour, light and transparency. Their faceted bodies are decorated with elongated geometric panels, delicate diamond patterns and amber-coloured accents that catch and reflect the light beautifully.
Each bottle retains its original crystal stopper, crowned with an elegant faceted spherical finial. Particularly noteworthy, the original identification numbers engraved on the stoppers correspond to those inside the bottle necks, confirming that both stoppers are original to their respective bottles.
The two bottles measure 13 cm and 14 cm in height, forming a charming and harmonious pair.
Both are preserved in very good antique condition, with no chips. Their remarkable preservation is particularly noteworthy considering that they are more than a century old.
Originally designed for an elegant Belle Époque dressing table, these perfume bottles are equally attractive today as decorative objects in a contemporary interior, bringing a touch of historical elegance and sophistication.
A charming and increasingly collectible pair of authentic antique perfume bottles, representing the exceptional craftsmanship of early Val Saint Lambert crystal production. More than a century after their creation, they remain beautiful examples of Belgian decorative glassmaking and fascinating survivors of the Belle Époque.
Val Saint Lambert, nestled in Seraing near Liège, Belgium, is a beacon of crystal craftsmanship with a legacy spanning nearly two centuries. Established in 1826 by chemist François Kemlin and engineer Auguste Lelièvre, the company transformed the remnants of the Val-Saint-Lambert Abbey into a thriving glassworks.
The 19th century marked a period of significant growth for Val Saint Lambert. By the early 1900s, the company employed over 5,000 workers, producing 120,000 pieces of glass daily. Their creations, renowned for exceptional quality and intricate designs, found admirers worldwide, including in Tsarist Russia and North America. A testament to their artistry is the “Vase of the Nine Provinces,” a monumental piece over 2 meters tall and weighing 200 kilograms, crafted for the 1894 World Exhibition in Antwerp.
The 20th century brought challenges, including the impacts of two World Wars and economic downturns. Despite these obstacles, Val Saint Lambert’s resilience ensured the preservation of its artisanal heritage. Today, the company seamlessly blends traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design, producing exquisite crystal pieces that cater to modern aesthetics.
Val Saint Lambert stands as a symbol of Belgian craftsmanship, where each piece reflects a harmonious blend of history, artistry, and innovation.
