Hand-painted with egg tempera colors or oil on a wooden panel with a chalk ground. Typical method of icon making in 18th- and 19th-century Greece (in the tradition of the Russian Orthodox Church).
The subject is relatively rare and highly popular in the Orthodox Church.
The painting is rendered in quite a lot of detail (see photos). Perfectly coordinated color contrasts and well-executed shading. The painting contains very authentic craquelure (see photos). Partial restorations and retouches are present (see photos).
The faces of the saints are particularly expressive and striking (see photos). The saints are labeled. The inscriptions are legible.
Sturdy and solid wooden panel.
