This fair-condition Arabic Ottoman Qur’an, dating from 1850, comprises 35 pages of dispersed, unbound leaves with complete and partial surahs, including painted floral verse-of-prostration markers.
Description from the seller
Leaves from a dispersed and unbound copy of the Qur'an containing some complete chapters (99-108 complete) and some partial, non-sequential chapters, including 88 and 89, 65 and 66, 60, 54 and 55, 16 and part go chapter 6.
Surahs 99 to 108 of the Quran form a tightly woven thematic arc that moves sequentially from the cosmic destruction of the universe to the ultimate psychological and spiritual states of humanity. Located in Juz’ ‘Amma (the 30th part), these short, rhythmic chapters are predominantly Meccan revelations. They are tied together through a chronological and logical progression: the end of the worldly timeline, the evaluation of human behaviour, and the final division of humanity into the successful and the ruined.
The painted floral medallions in the margins of a couple the pages, images 2611c and i, mark verses of prostration.
Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing.
Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate, so please check this if you are concerned. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional fee charged by us.
New German customs regulations mean that we are now having to pay customs before the item leaves the UK. Regrettably we have to pass these costs on through a surcharge on postage to Germany. As we don't know the final auctions costs we have estimated the approximate value. If the custom costs more than we have anticipated, we will absorb the additional customs duty.
