Description from the seller
Art Nouveau-period naturalistic square vase in polychrome enamel on double-layer crystal, acid-etched by the Baccarat crystalworks, decorated with foliage, stems, buds, and wild poppy flowers against a light granulated background.
- Frosted neck and decoration enhanced by hand with 24-carat fine gold, applied freehand with a brush.
- Double-layer crystal consists of two layers of crystal, which, once acid-etched, make it possible to create a two-tone enamelled design.
- Unsigned, as it dates from before 1936, when Baccarat began signing its creations with the crystalworks' logo, acid-etched to depict a stemmed glass on the left, a carafe in the center, and a tumbler on the right, with the word Baccarat at the top of the carafe and France beneath it, following its curve.
- The model of this vase is listed with various floral designs from the Art Nouveau period in Baccarat's late 19th-century catalogue.
- Previously, a paper label bearing the Baccarat crystalworks' logo was affixed and pasted onto pieces, or a molded signature was used on molded-crystal pieces from its workshops, or an incised signature on the bronze mounts fitted to crystal objects.
- The Baccarat crystalworks is located in the commune of Baccarat, in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department (54), in the Lorraine region.
- Art Nouveau period, circa 1890–1910
