Description from the seller

HIGHLIGHTS:
• Exceptionally rare Mercury Comet Caliente Convertible from the final production year, 1967
• First delivery on 30/06/1967 in Paris; since 1987 in the Netherlands and fully restored
• Powered by a completely rebuilt 302 cu in (5.0 liter) V8 engine, converted to lead-free fuel and electronic ignition
• Electrically operated soft top and refurbished automatic transmission
• Polish antique vehicle registration papers, registered and insured

HISTORY/OVERVIEW:
The Mercury Comet Caliente Convertible is one of the hardest-to-find US convertible rarities from the late 1960s. As the luxurious top-of-the-line version of the Comet range, the Caliente impressed with upscale equipment, elegant styling and refined finishing details. Even on the North American market, this model is today considered a coveted rarity.

This vehicle stems from the final model year 1967 and was first delivered in Paris on June 30, 1967. In 1987 the Comet made its way to the Netherlands, where it underwent a complete restoration. Today the car is located in the Czech Republic (Jablonec nad Nisou), is drivable and has Polish antique vehicle registration papers.

BODY/PAINT:
The bodywork, after the previous full restoration, presents itself in a neat and well-kept overall condition. The red paint harmonizes with the plentiful chrome trim pieces and the nearly new whitewall tires. The black, electrically operated soft top opens and closes flawlessly; the fabric shows only minor, age-related signs of wear.

INTERIOR:
The interior is well-kept and authentically 1960s in style. The broad cockpit features black seats, wood accent trim, chrome accents and the large original steering wheel. Entertainment electronics include a radio with cassette deck as well as an additional CD changer.

MECHANICS:
Under the long hood lies a newly rebuilt 302 cu in (5.0-liter) V8 engine, which replaced the original 289 cu in V8 a few years ago and has run only a few miles since the rebuild. The cylinder heads have been modified to run on lead-free fuel and an electronic ignition system has been installed. The automatic transmission has been completely overhauled; furthermore, the braking system, alternator and starter have been renewed.

DOCUMENTS:
The vehicle is equipped with Polish antique vehicle registration papers, registered and insured. Historical records document the initial delivery in Paris (1987) and the subsequent import to the Netherlands.

Viewing is possible by appointment in Jablonec nad Nisou, Czech Republic.

Disclaimer

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
