Tony Ward - Tableaux Vivants - 2002

Rare book in very good condition, only a few flaws on the dust jacket as documented by the photos..

“My visual dialogue rests on the premise that life is a game—a mise-en-scène—of creation. I share Shakespeare’s idea that “all the world’s a stage”: an enigmatic and endless production, made of moments of great joy, pain, and surprise. Surprise is a magical element I try to generate through the creation of *tableaux*.

These *tableaux* constitute my expressive medium. The cast of characters is comprised of friends, acquaintances, lovers, or complete strangers who love to take on the challenge of being photographed. Just like a jazz-fusion musician, I seek unusual juxtapositions, unexpected stagings, or multicultural influences that, at times, give rise to a new or ambiguous worldview.”
