Description from the seller
Important Rocaille-style Jardinière / Centerpiece (Jardinière) from the 19th Century Rocaille period (c. 1870–1890) – Napoleonic III era.
Exterior structure in bronze/brass engraved with relief; removable inner basin (liner) original in zinc.
Jardinière of oval shape with lobed contours, richly decorated with Rocaille-inspired motifs. The body is extensively worked in relief with volutes, cartouches, shell motifs and stylized foliage. It features a perforated and cut upper gallery. The sides are equipped with imposing winged handles with vegetal-scrolls fused into the design. It rests on four curved feet integrated into the base decoration. Interior with its protective lining in grey metal, essential for water retention.
Good overall condition, showing natural patina of age and slight wear from time. Inner liner shows normal oxidation marks from use. It presents minor dents and, unfortunately, one of the side wings is missing.
The measurements refer to the jardinière itself; I did not include the wings/handles.
Seller's Story
Antiques are my enormous passion; all the items I have up for auction were found at antique fairs and from antique dealers mainly in the Lisbon area, but also from the rest of Portugal. Only pieces of good quality, distinctly original and obviously beautiful. Quality guarantee and very careful shipping of the pieces.
ATTENTION: If you are interested in one of my pieces that has a reserve price, please note that I will absolutely not offer it for less than 80% of the reserve value of the piece. And I should also note that if that piece is not sold here on Catawiki, I will sell it at another auction house, so if you’re really interested in any of my pieces, buy it when you see it the first time.
Thank you very much
