The illustrated Arabic folio *Muslim Prayers at the Kabba*, dating from around 1740, features black naskh script, red Persian commentary in nasta'liq and gold decoration.
Description from the seller
An illustrated folio of Muslim prayer from a dispersed prayer book Circa 1740. The folio is from a ritual instruction for supplication at the Kaaba - Islam's holiest site, the cube-shaped stone shrine located at the center of the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. It reads approximately as:
"he sat between the two pillars at the door of the Kaaba, praised God and extolled Him, asked for forgiveness and then arose until he came to the back of the Kabba, where he placed his face and cheek in his prostration and primed God.
The prayers are beautifully written in black naskh script with inter-linear Persian commentary in red nasta'liq between the verses. The style is typically Indian, with a profusion of gold, including 'cloud' decoration around and between the script as shown in the close-up image. The pages are surrounded by delicate meandering vine, a treatment reserved for the finest prayer books. The condition is very good.
Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing.
Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate, so please check this if you are concerned. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional fee charged by us.
New German customs regulations mean that we are now having to pay customs before the item leaves the UK. Regrettably we have to pass these costs on through a surcharge on postage to Germany. As we don't know the final auctions costs we have estimated the approximate value. If the custom costs more than we have anticipated, we will absorb the additional customs duty.
