DARKVASE_HER is a unique contemporary glass and iron vase by ERLANDS & BAI BAI, made in Riga in 2024.
Description from the seller
EB WeightLight series DARK Collection captures the first stage of the past experiences – when the mind is clouded by the weight of emotions.
DARKVASE_HER is the soul of the DARK Collection. Unique piece that has unrepeatable silver like inner oxidation that no other piece from DARK Collection has. It uses an experimental glass metal fusion technique developed by glass artist BAI BAI. First discovered in 2018 and further evolved through experimentation. Developed during artist residency at North Lands Creative in Scotland 2022/2023.
The process requires precise control of temperature, timing, and material application using hot glass to achieve the coloration, surface textures, and bond between glass and oxide. Fusion creates a lava-like reminiscent revealed through cuts in the glass, expanding its expressive possibilities as a sculptural material. Emerging full body glass as though a fluid, glowing substance remains trapped within a dense, hardened shell.
BAI BAI signature glass techniques, is an ode to the craftsmanship of glass blowers including textured and rough surfaces boldly shaping full body glass that adds unforgettable visual and sensory experience. Glass embodies transparency and allows light to pass through, giving it an ethereal quality.
Authors :
ERLANDS & BAI BAI form an art-designer duo, connecting their life philosophies in glass art, meditation, and design. ERLANDS envisions spaces and objects through the guidance of meditative practices. Where he explores the core of harmonious life. BAI BAI through mastery of glass making traditions fused with her signature techniques creates phenomenal glass art pieces, forming hot glass into sensory textures and visual experiences. It began as a personal exploration and has evolved into a methodical study: extended periods of isolation, vipassana meditation, breathwork, physical and environmental challenges. Through this process, a way of living revealed itself, one that values slowness, clarity, and intention. And gives foundation of shaping objects and environments that evolve this vision.
The EB WeightLight was born merging both – depth and lightness. A sculptural object that encourages daily interaction and movement through connective design. Its meaning can be explained in environment that reflects it. This is how mediative practices shape the objects, space and philosophy bridging traditional glass craftsmanship and contemporary design thinking. Created in collaboration between Erlands, whose meditative practice guides the design process, and Baiba Dzenite, a contemporary glass artist rooted in UNESCO glassmaking traditions embodying both – mastery and innovations.

NEW GLASS REVIEW 45 issue selected EB WeightLight between 14 best of 100 the most timely, innovative glass art projects during the year. 'The sophisticated choreography of space allows the situated glass objects to effortlessly dance as part of this abstracted sensibility. EB WeightLight Collectible series, an installation that considers objects of body sculpting in a designer-forward space, was curious and offers a distinct-yet-open composition of materials.Peering into the sculpted room, there is an invitation to move within. The creative team behind this project collaborated with movement experts to align the glass and metal forms toward reflecting a greater somatic balance' /Tami Landis/Curator of the Corning Museum of Glass.
