Description from the seller

Rare Ercole Barovier plate, made of iridescent sky-blue glass with a pink thread-rim.
On the back is the Barovier fired-on seal, which also confirms that it was made of Murano glass. The gold-leaf stamp on the base guarantees its authenticity, distinguishing it from an unsigned, generic piece.

A very rare piece dating from the 1940s/50s

The mark reads “BAROVIER GLASS MURANO” (a mark attributed to the famous Barovier & Toso glassworks or to productions by the Barovier family).

Origin: Murano, Italy (Venice).
Maker: Barovier family (a historic Murano glassmaking dynasty, best known for the Barovier & Toso signature).

Material: Murano art glass

Inscription: The hot-applied gold-leaf stamp on the base clearly reads BAROVIER, GLASS MURANO.

Marks of this kind, with the English word “GLASS,” were used mainly from the mid-twentieth century onward.

This is a distinctive mark: a hot-applied gold-leaf stamp. Unlike the more common Murano marks (paper/aluminum adhesive labels or diamond-point engraved signatures such as “Barovier & Toso Murano”), this one is a stamp applied to the glass base using gold leaf/powder.

The English wording “GLASS” indicates a stamp used especially for pieces intended for export (e.g., to English-speaking markets in the 1940s–50s).

Because it is a surface finish in gold leaf (rather than a deep engraving), it tends to wear off easily with use and cleaning, which is why perfectly intact examples are rare.

Gold-leaf stamp: The mark on the base guarantees its authenticity, distinguishing it from an unsigned, generic piece.
