Description from the seller

Bronze Wall Crucifix – Maison Barbedienne

19th century (Napoleon III style) – later-period frame

An elegant work of sacred art in dark-patinated bronze depicting the dead Christ, made using the complex lost-wax casting technique, which ensures excellent anatomical detail.
The bronze, finished with cold chasing, is mounted on an oval Baroque wooden frame covered in gold leaf.
It bears the original signature “F. BARBEDIENNE,” belonging to the celebrated 19th-century French art foundry, internationally renowned for the technical excellence of its castings and the extraordinary quality of its chasing. The signature is cold-engraved on the loincloth, and the chaser’s monogram is stamped on the back of the bronze, beside the characteristic flared opening of the hollow lost-wax casting.

Frame dimensions: 80x65x5
Bronze Christ dimensions: 39x35x10
