Compiled around 1487-1490, the Codice Trivulziano is Leonardo's attempt to organize and order that part of the Italian language concerning science, philosophy and academic subjects.
 Most of the words collected here derive from Latin and almost all are taken from famous Renaissance works, such as De re militari by Roberto Valturius and Vocabulista by Luigi Pulci.
 Many words were reinterpreted by Leonardo, who gave them a new meaning.
 The Codex therefore constitutes an exceptional document for the study of that period of the history of the Italian language, in which precise rules and orthographic rules had not yet been established.
 In addition to the well-known word lists, it includes an important series of architectural drawings, mainly studies developed for a competition that was proclaimed to complete the construction of the cathedral of Milan.
 There is also evidence of Leonardo's interest in the art of war and weapons and a curious gallery of real and imaginary portraits.
 In the edition presented here the facsimile is accompanied by a volume with the diplomatic and critical transcription edited by Anna Maria Brizio and invisible reproductions brought to light by special photographs.
 In a case covered in leather with gold tooling, the facsimile and a 138-page volume of text are printed, printed on handmade paper and bound in Fabriano paper.
