¶ Bernhard "Bernd" Becher (1931-2007), and Hilla Becher (1934-2015), were German conceptual artists and photographers working as a collaborative duo. They were internationally known for their photography of half-timbered houses and especially industrial installations such as water towers, cooling towers, gas holders and cranes and lift towers of mines. As the founders of what has come to be known as the ‘Becher school’ or the ‘Düsseldorf School’ they influenced generations of documentary photographers and artists.
