Mr. Scarron - Le Romant Comique - 1695

Beautiful copy of this famous 17th century burlesque play, well complete -

Paul Scarron, became paralyzed following an illness, so he began to write fierce burlesque pieces, inspired by Spanish models.

Le Romant comique appeared in two parts, in 1651 and 1657. Scarron was planning to write a third when death took him.

To escape his unfortunate rival in the heart of Mademoiselle de la Boissière, Garrigues and his beloved share the wandering existence of a troupe of actors -

Good condition of the binding, work in its full brown calfskin, good condition of the covers and the spine, rubbing from use, straight joint cracked but solid, remains fragile, spine with raised bands, edges pigmented with red, gilt titling on morocco piece -

Good condition inside, small worm work in the margin of the central pages, pages 317 to 332 are torn with a strong lack of text and pages 329-330 completely torn, beautiful initials, book decorated with a superb frontispiece title by J. Van Vianen and two title vignettes representing the city of Paris -
