Wonderful photobook by Helen Levitt - in super fresh condition.
Helen Levitt is one of the most prominent female photographers in America, is one of the pioneers of street photography. Animated by Walker Evans and influenced by Henri Cartier-Bresson and his philosophy of the Decisive Moment she started in the 1930s to develop a distinctive style, coined by Evans as “anti-journalism“. The streets of the poorer New York districts were transformed to stages of everyday life by the lens of Levitt's camera. The photographer herself presents her most iconic works in this volume, supplemented by formerly unpublished colour photographs. More than 100 of her legendary works shot in New York are united with pictures taken in Mexico and a dedication by Walker Evans to pay hommage to the american artist and her career that spans over more than seventy years.
