Description from the seller
2x Photographs of one of the major figures of the Cuban Revolution, Camilo Cienfuegos
(#1) Vintage silver gelatin print featuring Cuban revolutionary leader, Comandante Camilo Cienfuegos (1932–1959), renowned as the Hero of Yaguajay and one of the most beloved figures of the revolution. This intimate, unvarnished portrait captures the charismatic Comandante, shirtless and resting with his rifle in a rugged setting, providing a rare glimpse into the life of the revolutionary elite either during the Sierra Maestra campaign or in the immediate aftermath of the 1959 triumph. Crucially, the print is authenticated with the period stamp of "S Naranjo," the Havana-based studio responsible for documenting and distributing official images of the new regime's heroes. As Cienfuegos's time in power was tragically cut short by his mysterious death months later.
Size: 10cm x 15cm
Medium" Double weight gelatin silver print
Dates: Photograhed and printed in 1960s
Good condition with minor platina in the shadows.
(photo #2) The "Hero of Yaguajay"—in his iconic hat, surrounded by a diverse, informal group of supporters shortly after the 1959 triumph. The photo documents a pivotal transitional moment, symbolizing the new government's populist engagement, and captures the famously beloved leader at the peak of his influence.
Paper size: 20.5cm x 25.5cm
Medium: Gelatin silver print
Dates: Photographed and printed c1960
Good condition with bends, creases and signs of editorial use
