Wooden Sorrentina-style jewelry box from early 1900s Italy (Campania), measuring 11 cm high, 18 cm wide and 8 cm deep, with a non‑working carillon and original key.
Description from the seller
Important Sorrento box with a non-functioning music box and the original key.
Italian production from the early 1900s that revives the style of the early 1800s, widespread in Southern Italy, featuring the creation of refined antique furniture and objects known as 'mobili smith,' noted for their fine woods and inlays.
The large box measures 15 cm wide, 26 cm long, and 11 cm high, and is a lace of inlays with the lower part slightly domed.
It is characterized by the use of light and dark walnut-colored wood and honey-colored wood, and it is a set of hieroglyphs. On the upper part, there are depictions of birds with flowers, and on the three sides, the same inlays and birds are repeated. To give it more prominence and emphasize its importance, it has four feet.
I would say it's a carefully crafted box from every point of view—a lace of inlay work, a testament to the skill of artisans from the past.
Inside, there is a rectangular mirror along which a dark red tortoiseshell thread runs. The interior is special because when opened, there are two rectangles measuring 11 cm by 10 cm covered in Bordeaux that serve as a glove compartment, and beneath them, two more rectangles of the same size for storing jewelry. Hidden away are two additional rectangular compartments for jewelry. In total, there are four.
This type of craftsmanship attributes its value and sets it apart from the usual boxes seen on the market. The interior is lined with dark red velvet and shows signs of age.
A demonstration of its age and the originality of the box.
The external part is in excellent condition. The mechanism is blocked but can be repaired.
The key works with the lock.
Photos are more illustrative than words.
A very important object to use as a decorative item in any environment.
Come in. Bring jewelry or pens to place on a desk.
It was part of the furnishings of my ancestors' palace, which I inherited, and I found it along with all the boxes, many of which I am selling due to their large number. My ancestors placed great importance on the home, considering it a calling card, and they always had high-quality objects made that were expressions of beauty.
For shipping, I always use private couriers so that the item has greater protection in the packaging and arrives sooner.
It is in good condition and shows signs of age. I didn't write excellent because it has its years.
I use private couriers for shipping to ensure the Lotto arrives sooner and to have double packaging given the importance of the item.
Shipping costs vary depending on whether the destination is Europe zone one or two, such as the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Eastern European countries, or zone three, such as Norway, Malta, Cyprus, and the rest of the world.
The customs duties will be borne by the buyer.
