Description from the seller
An extremely rare pirated edition of the infamous diaries of Max de Jong (1917-1951). This edition was published by De Bucheliuspers in Utrecht in 1990. It was printed in a very limited edition of 51 numbered copies. All four volumes bear the number 18.
An official edition would eventually be published by G.A. van Oorschot in 2016.

Attached is a letter, "copy to photocopy - HvS." HvS = Hans van Straten. Hans van Straten was friends with Max de Jong.
This letter (Bergen, 9 February 1972) comes from J. Hemelrijk and is addressed to the publisher Geert van Oorschot. In it, Hemelrijk urges the publication of Het Dagboek van Max de Jong. He, not mincing his words, presses the publisher to ignore the objections of Max's sister Lidi.
All from the library of Bert Voeten. He wrote his name in front of the four volumes. On the back of the letter Bert Voeten wrote: "His uncle, Dr. Jaap Hemelrijk".
The covers are slightly discolored. A few small pencil marks by Bert Voeten in the margins. The underlines in the text are also pressed in.
