AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Very rare Murano, 3-piece table decoration, design: L. Derai and C. Pelusi, 1956

Hands, height: approx. 25.5 cm, diameter at the base: approx. 6.0 cm
Figure, height: approx. 27.5 cm, diameter at the base: approx. 8.0 – 9.8 cm

Quirky ensemble consisting of the bust of an exotically grotesque, expressionist queen and a pair of evening or bridal gloves.
The bust is made of colorless glass, with lips and a crown in amethyst-colored glass. The surface of the figure has been treated with several etching processes. The earrings and the spiral necklace, as well as parts of the headdress and the décolleté necklace, are gold-plated.

This surrealist table decoration is a remarkable example of Venetian glass art from the post-war era. The set was designed by the designers Derai and Pelusi for the renowned manufactory Pauly & C. (Compagnia Venezia Murano).
Details of the ensemble
Date of origin: The design is dated around 1956.
The main piece is a table decoration depicting a stylized female figure. Typical are the red lips, the gold leaf inclusions in the glass, and the striking purple headpiece.
Hand vases: The accompanying vases, shaped like raised hands, are conceived as soliflores (single-flower vases). They enhance the surreal character of the ensemble, which was typical of the experimental phase of Murano glass in the 1950s.
Background to the manufactory
Pauly & C. | CVM (Compagnia Venezia Murano) is among the tradition-rich names in Murano.
The manufactory is known for its collaboration with prominent artists and designers to combine classic techniques with modern, often humorous or abstract forms.
Such sets are sought-after collectibles today and are frequently found at specialized art auctions or on platforms for design classics.

In the last image, two lamp bases can be seen representing an exotic royal couple, executed in the same style as the glasses offered here.
The female figure is labeled above the base in white enamel: L. Derai C. Pelusi 1956.
