Anna MORSTADT is an artist who was born in 1874 and died in 1946. His works were offered 46 times at public auctions, mainly in the drawing and watercolor category.
Anna Morstadt (1874–1946) was an Austrian-French painter, printmaker, lithographer, and portrait painter who is best known for her colorful Orientalist scenes.
Life and Work
Dates of life and origin: Born 1874 in Vienna, Austria, and died 1946 in Paris, France. She was active at the Czech Art School.
Orientalism: Morstadt is a characteristic example of Orientalism in art. She often painted scenes from North Africa, particularly from Kairouan and Biskra.
Motifs: Among her preferred motifs were men on horses or camels in traditional Middle Eastern clothing, donkeys with farmers, as well as landscapes and portraits.
Techniques: She mainly worked with oil on canvas, but also used works on paper, such as pastel drawings.
