A figure from Roman mythology, the faun is a very ancient deity, connected to the vegetal and animal world, protector of woods and groves. His figure is linked to Dionysus, a deity also connected to the natural world, with whom he shares this aspect of communion with nature. Here the faun is carrying an otre, an ancient container for liquids.
