Vladimir Sichov was born on October 23, 1945, in Kazan, the capital of the Tatar Republic. He studied radio engineering and began photography in 1965. 1970-1971: Engineer at Baïkonour, the Soviet space center. 1972: Professional photographer in Moscow. 1974-1979: Friend of unofficial painters, he exhibited their works in his apartment. 1979: Left the USSR for France. Vladimir Sichov was the first Soviet photographer to leave the USSR with his archives. Upon arriving in Paris, the international press published his reports on daily life in the Soviet Union. He met Helmut Newton, who introduced him to Vogue, where he collaborated for two years. His photos have been published in Paris Match, People, Stern, Life… Passionate about black and white photography, he created images of Paris and numerous portraits of artists.
