Beautiful Piazza edition of this collection of prose poems by Edgar Allan Poe, illustrated by Dulac.
Our copy is missing the outside texts.
The illustration includes 9 wood-engraved headpieces by Dulac. Beautiful layout with a title, typographic ornaments in water green, initials in red and black, and all pages framed in red.
Edmond Dulac (1882-1953) is one of the major illustrators of the golden age of illustration, on par with Arthur Rackham, William Heath Robinson, and Kay Nielsen.
Limited edition of 400 copies on Japanese paper, this one No. 394, the other passed, not numbered.
Copy established in an antique full vellum binding (parchment) decorated with a painted design, inspired by the ornamentation of the title page with pine cones, also repeated on the covers (see photos). Gilt head.
Leaves under a beautiful folded cover.
Some foxing on the frontispiece and split spines.
