Description from the seller

Restored 500SEL AMG with 280 HP thanks to AMG-designed camshafts, tappets, and replica exhaust.

Recently professionally restored and equipped with original AMG Retro-fitted parts or high-quality reproductions such as:

- AMG/Momo steering wheel
- AMG/Recaro seats
- AMG/Bilstein sport suspension and dampers
- AMG/Monoblock wheels with new tires of correct speed rating
- AMG Repro camshafts (Catcam racing camshafts Belgium)
- AMG Repro lifters Febi
- AMG Repro spoiler, side skirts and bumpers
- AMG Repro speedometer
- AMG Repro stainless steel exhaust
- AMG (Show) valve covers

Furthermore, the car is equipped with a high-end music streaming system behind a time-appropriate Clarion fascia. All cables and all speakers replaced in the correct locations. New boxes and a subwoofer under the driver's seat. A true concert hall for the music lover.

In the rear privacy curtains have been installed.

In the trunk there is a power outlet to, among other things, install a fridge.

The 500SEL AMG recently had its maintenance and is ready to hit the track.

HISTORY:
Originally delivered in Germany, exported to California after 4 years and personally brought back to Europe about three years ago. As a Mercedes V8 collector, this W126 has received all the attention it deserves and is ready to be included in a collection, as well as to provide everyday enjoyment.

BODYWORK AND PAINT:
The Mercedes received a new paint job in its original Smoke Silver color during the restoration, documented with around 300 photos.
The 500SEL is absolutely rust-free and the rear window was replaced after the typical condensation rust between trunk and glass was fully repaired.
Subsequently the chrome was matched to the body color as per the current AMG trend. There are still minor traces of paint visible on some rubbers. This, along with a tiny crack in the trunk spoiler, are the only remarks to mention.

TECHNICAL:
During the upgrade/restoration no expense was spared. The AMG-designed camshafts with AMG/Febi lightweight lifters and the AMG-copy exhaust allowed us to register an impressive 280 HP.
New tires with correct speed index and the brand-new sport suspension and Bilstein shock absorbers according to AMG guidelines complete the setup.
Apart from a non-working cruise control there are no outgoing costs; maintenance has been performed. Naturally, this jewel shifts superbly and starts smoothly from cold and warm alike on the first try.

INTERIOR:
There is a slight difference in material on the two new Recaro seats and the original rear bench. Aside from that, the interior is almost as new for its 41 years. The original Mercedes front seats can be supplied if desired.
The headliner is tight, though it shows age-related spots. The sunroof, the windows, the power seats, the automatic climate control—basically everything works perfectly, except the previously mentioned CC. The gas may need topping up on the refurbished air conditioning; it did cool (it was 42 degrees outside) but, in my view, not quite enough.
The non-working Clarion is only a facade for the high-end streaming device with excellent new speakers and a woofer under the driver's seat. The music lover drives with a concert hall.

DOCUMENTS:
All documents to register the vehicle in Europe are present.
An extensive folder with invoices, advice, and AMG/W126-related paraphernalia is also included.

PICKUP:
The Mercedes is located in Vera-Playa, Spain, and can be viewed by appointment; a test drive is also possible.
I can assist with shipping, physically at key handover and loading, and I also have contact details for reliable and affordable transport to Spain, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, and Luxembourg.

Disclaimer

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
