Buraku is a collection of photographs by Japanese photographer Kiyoshi Fujikawa, born in Yamaguchi Prefecture in 1930, who graduated from a photography college in Tokyo and worked as a news photographer for many years. However, it was the ‘Buraku issue’ that made him famous as a photographer. For nearly 30 years, Fujikawa has been documenting Buraku issues, which have long been taboo due to human rights issues and other factors, and can be called his life's work. This book was edited and published by the Institute for Buraku Studies in 1960. It records the life and work of the Buraku, who are in a harsh situation that can be described as on the periphery of society, and although it is the size of a new book, it conveys the dense atmosphere packed into it. The book won the Newcomer's Award of the Japan Association of Photo Critics.
