Original edition

A controversial work published in response to Antoine Court, a figure of French Protestantism. The author justifies the revocation of the Edict of Nantes (1685) and downplays the severity of the Saint Bartholomew's Day Massacre. He develops political, religious, and economic arguments, particularly regarding the consequences of the revocation for commerce and industry. This text provoked a strong reaction, notably from Voltaire, who condemned these theses. The work is also known under the title Interesting Paradoxes on the Causes and Effects of the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes.
