Description from the seller

Superb 19th-century white marble sculpture in the neoclassical style depicting a crouching Venus.
The features correspond to the ancient Greek canons within the tradition of the neoclassical school.
The sculpture is made with exaggerated curves and uninterrupted scrolls, from the hair to the fingertips, to illustrate a form of softness attributed to femininity.
The base is sculpted with reliefs of water wavelets.
Venus throws water over her shoulder with a graceful gesture, undulating her body in the movement.
This work is a typical exercise in the style of French neoclassicism.
Fine white marble of beautiful quality.
Very finely sculpted
The yellow veins in marble are used to create a blond reflection in the hair. This technique demonstrates great mastery in sizing, determining the vein from which to sculpt the subject so that the body is not traversed by another yellow vein.

French Work

Good condition (see photos). Several fingers have been broken and glued back, fixed with metal pins.
The fingers remain fragile to shocks but hold firmly.

Dimensions 51 x 20 x 29 cm
