A legendary sound
At the core of Brian's sound is the AC30's Normal channel, driven by a small boost pedal for treble and midrange, both usually set flat. And — of course — the 'Red Special,' his infamous self-built guitar. Over the years, Brian's equipment has been pared down to the essentials, optimized to deliver the best results and maximum reliability, without forcing him to carry anything more than the bare minimum. With Brian's valuable help and constant encouragement, VOX created the AC30BM, a reproduction of his stage amplifier and boost pedals. This is a limited edition of only 500 combos, which will not be reproduced.
Brought to perfection
To complete the offer and add a touch of versatility, it was preferred to include the boost device within the amplifier itself, rather than providing it as a separate pedal. The boost remains controllable via footswitch. On the rear panel, there is also a switch for switching to 15 Watts. The circuitry used for the 15-watt operation is exclusive to VOX. Not only is the number of active power tubes changed, along with the cathode resistor values that regulate their bias, but the impedance of the output transformer is also altered. Many amplifiers feature 'half-power' switches, but none of them operate in this way – that is, in the RIGHT way!
Most of the electronic components that make up the amplifier are hand wired on a 'turred board'—just like it was done in the past. Naturally, where, for a series of reasons, this solution did not guarantee acceptable results in terms of reliability (such as in the boost circuit), a modern printed circuit board was preferred.
