Zeezicht, an original acrylic painting by Belgian artist Rudi Pillen (1931–2014) from 1960–1970, depicting nature, measuring 41 cm by 49 cm, signed, sold with frame.
Description from the seller
Rudi Pillen was a Belgian artist.
From 1949, he studied fine arts at the Sint-Lucasschool in Ghent. Six years after his first visit to Africa in 1956, he moved to Zaire to return after 13 years. Pillen's work reflects a great deal of creativity. Over a period of more than 50 years, his work evolved from expressionism— inspired by his stay in Africa— to contemporary modern art. The influence of African culture is especially evident in the colorful scenes. His most famous work can be seen at the Thailand Cultural Centre in the Bangkok metro, where a piece on a canvas measuring 2 meters by 10 meters was unveiled by Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz of Belgium. His works have also been exhibited in San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Paris, Kinshasa, and Johannesburg.
This offered work is very typical of Rudi Pillen. It combines simplicity with the all-encompassing nature of the outdoors. It is an acrylic painting on paper, beautifully framed and protected behind glass. The frame has a 70s look and is in perfect condition. I removed the work from the frame to be sure of the technique and the surface (see the additional photos of the back and the signature in transfer). It is now neatly back in its frame and ready for shipping.
Rare work by this remarkable artist who succeeded in depicting the abstraction of the everyday.
The work is carefully packed and shipped with insurance.
