【Product details】
A finely mounted wakizashi presented in a black lacquered scabbard, its surface enhanced with a distinctive reddish-brown lacquer pattern that lends it a unique and refined character. The koshirae (mounting) features an iron tsuba (sword guard) with a wave-themed openwork design, elegantly balancing strength and lightness. Both the fuchi (hilt collar) and kashira (pommel) are adorned with dragons in high relief, their scales and expressions finely executed. The menuki (hilt ornaments) also depict intricately rendered dragons, a powerful symbol in Japanese culture representing strength, protection, and the mastery of water, revered as bringers of prosperity and guardians against misfortune. Please note that the mounts are modern.
The blade displays a beautiful hamon (temper line), its undulating pattern revealing the skill of its forging. The koshirae, including the tsuba, is largely of modern manufacture, offering a fresh presentation while retaining traditional form.
This sword comes with a photocopy of its Firearms and Swords Registration Certificate from Nagano Prefecture, number 86276, as the original will be returned to the government. The certificate details are as follows: Type: Wakizashi, Length: 40.2 cm, Curvature: 0.9 cm, with one peg hole, and an inscription reading “Mumei (unsigned)” on the obverse, issued on April 20, Heisei 18 (2006).
The blade has a minute chip at the tip and minor rust. The handle (tsuka) is made of resin, and one seppa (spacer) is missing. Please refer to the photos for its condition. A silk storage bag is included.
Total length of the blade: approx. 54 cm
Total length including scabbard: approx. 70 cm
