Paesaggi, an oil on cardboard painting by Alfredo Scarponi detto Alfredo di Romagna (Italy, 1950), 40 cm high by 54 cm wide, signed, original edition, in good condition and sold with the frame.
Description from the seller
Three works by the Romagna-born painter Alfredo Scarponi (Rimini, 1913 – Ravenna, 1979), nicknamed Alfredo of Romagna, painted in oil on cardboard in good preservation. The frames are contemporaneous with the three works.
Born in Rimini, Alfredo Scarponi moved to Milan, where he captured the many facets of the Lombard capital, before returning to Romagna, precisely to Ravenna.
Alfredo Scarponi even brings Romagna into his pseudonym. Perhaps because he moved, after an initial formative period, to the Lombard capital and there he painted the city and all its nuances, yet always maintaining, as one can see from the cover image, a link to the maritime atmosphere of his hometown. The views of Milan are permeated with an impressionist style. Looking at Scarponi’s Piazza del Duomo in Milan, how could one not think, at a glance, of Monet’s famous Rouen Cathedral series? Of course, Scarponi “adapted” the impressionist style to the context of mid-20th-century Milan. In fact, in the same Piazza del Duomo in Milan, the famous monument is only a part of the painting: there is also a car speeding through the crowd of pedestrians, bicycles, and carriages.
Provenance: private collection Rimini
