12 Late XIXth C. -early XXth C. napkins with L.C. initials - Textile - 35 cm - 35 cm

For a change a complete set of small napkins.
I have not seen this kind of napkin before.
They have a distinct Basque look.
Also the design is reminiscent of the basque table linen.
By the look of it they have never been used.
This in itself is not very unusual as the French were hoarders
in the early 19th and 20th C.
They could have been a wedding present and many of these kind of objects
were given as presents at the marriage and would disappear in the large dowry
armoires and never to be seen again.
The initials L.C. are embroidered in a variant of the Roman style.
My feel is that they date from around 1870.
