This special and rare wall shelf with incorporated frame has pure unfussy lines, which is typical for the early Art Nouveau style pioneered by designers as Gustave Serrurier Bovy. It is made of a medium-dark stained oak. The overall shape of the frame is slightly curved and tapers towards the top. This shape is also used for the pierced vertical supports that hold up the two shelves. Two very small shelves have been added to the outer lower corners. The top part of the backplate encases a relatively large rectangular frame with glass plate (the current picture has been added for presentation purposes); it is possible that this was originally a mirror and that this piece was a bathroom or vanity mirror and shelf. 

These slightly curved tapered lines combined with a geometric design are very reminiscent of the style of Gustave Serrurier-Bovy and his workshops; unfortunately I have not been able to find the piece back in any archives so a definite attribution is not possible. This Belgian architect and furniture designer from Liège is considered to be the initiator of the Art Nouveau movement.

Condition: Good. No structural damage. Some signs of usage as consistent with age. There are discreet dark round marks on the bottom shelves (vases were probably placed here). The glass pane is new (this could easily be replaced by a mirror if so desired).
