baromètre est de style Napoléon III (seconde moitié du XIXᵉ siècle), reconnaissable à son décor ornemental chargé, ses volutes, feuillages et motifs animaliers " pieds éléphant ".*
Le style s’inspire du Rococo et du Néo-baroque, typique des objets décoratifs de 1850-1900.

Pourquoi les pieds en tête d’éléphant ?
Les têtes d’éléphant symbolisent la force, la sagesse et la longévité. À la fin du XIXᵉ siècle, l’éléphant est aussi un motif exotique inspiré par l’expansion coloniale française en Inde et en Asie. C’était un signe d’originalité et de prestige dans les objets décoratifs.

Provenance :
Probablement France, vers 1880-1900.
Les inscriptions en français ("Tempête", "Pluie", "Variable", "Beau Temps", "Très Sec") indiquent une fabrication nationale ou pour le marché francophone.

Fabricant :
"Ambroise" semble être soit la marque soit le nom du distributeur. Plusieurs baromètres de la fin du XIXᵉ portent des noms de vendeurs ou d’horlogers parisiens. La mention "Baromètre Anéroïde" désigne un instrument sans mercure, inventé vers 1844 par Lucien Vidie et très populaire ensuite.

Description 
Rare baromètre anéroïde de style Napoléon III – Ambroise – France, vers 1880-1900.
Monture en laiton et cuivre finement décorée de volutes et feuillages, ornée de deux têtes d’éléphants formant pieds latéraux, symbole de force et d’exotisme.
Poignée arrière en laiton permettant le transport ou la fixation murale.
Cadran circulaire (Ø verre : 12 cm) gradué en cmHg, échelle météorologique en français : Tempête – Pluie – Variable – Beau Temps – Très Sec.
Indicateur central avec mécanisme visible, mention "Baromètre Anéroïde".
Instrument complet, sorti de grenier, patine d’origine.

Hauteur totale : 22 cm

Diamètre : 12 cm (verre)

Profondeur : 5 cm

État : Bon état d’ensemble, patine et traces du temps, verre intact.
Provenance : France.
Période : Fin XIXᵉ – début XXᵉ siècle.
