Icona ortodossa russa, raffigurante San Nicola il Taumaturgo (Св. Николай Чудотворец), dipinta a tempera su tavola di legno e ricoperta da una riza in ottone inciso e sbalzato.

Il santo è rappresentato frontalmente, in atto di benedizione con la mano destra e con il Libro dei Vangeli nella sinistra, secondo l’iconografia tradizionale russa. Il volto e le mani, visibili attraverso le aperture del rivestimento, mostrano una pittura dai toni caldi e solenni, tipica della produzione di fine XIX secolo.

La riza è finemente lavorata con motivi floreali e decorativi, e presenta un’aureola raggiata di grande effetto simbolico.
Opera realizzata per la devozione privata domestica, testimonianza della profonda spiritualità e dell’abilità artigianale russa dell’epoca zarista.

San Nicola è uno dei santi più venerati della tradizione ortodossa, protettore dei viaggiatori, dei bambini e delle famiglie. Le sue icone erano spesso poste nell’angolo sacro della casa (“Красный угол”) come simbolo di protezione e benedizione.
