Ritratto di Gentiluomo, an oil on canvas portrait from the 19th century United Kingdom, titled Ritratto di Gentiluomo, sold with frame.
Description from the seller
Portrait of a Gentleman – Oil on Canvas, Second Half of the 19th Century
Painting dimensions: ca. 43.5 × 53 cm
Total dimensions with frame: ca. 72.5 × 62 cm
Medium: oil on canvas
Provenance: private collection
Condition: professionally restored (full technical report attached)
A refined nineteenth-century male portrait depicting a distinguished bourgeois gentleman, with slender glasses and a dark formal suit enhanced by a white jabot. The work, typical of bourgeois portraiture in the second half of the 19th century, stands out for its painterly quality and the skillful use of chiaroscuro that gives psychological depth to the face and a strong on-stage presence.
The painting has undergone conservative restoration carried out by a professional, a restoration lecturer in Florence, and is accompanied by the signed technical report.
The contemporaneous giltwood frame with refined shell decorations at the corners completes the piece; it shows some signs of age and small losses to the gilding as visible in the photographs, which do not compromise its charm and authenticity.
On the back there is a historic shipping label from the English company Pickfords, with a handwritten note (“Williams – 93”), indicative of a previous movement or storage in the United Kingdom, an interesting trace of handling/provenance.
A work of strong character and historical charm, ready to be exhibited and ideal for collectors of period paintings and enthusiasts of portraiture.
The photos are an integral part of the description. Guaranteed careful packaging entrusted to professionals in the field.
