Description from the seller

Author: Maurits Cornelis Escher (1898-1972)
Title: "Sky and Water" (1938)
Size: 65 x 55cm
Copyright: The M.C. Escher Company - Baarn - The Netherlands.
Offset print, made on 180g high-quality matt paper. Displays a vivid and sharp image quality.
Just the right size to frame. Impressive effect when framed.
Shipping in a rigid tube via certified express mail.
It is possible to collect more than one object, from the same auction, in the same shipment.

Over the years, “Sky and Water” has become one of his most popular and widely reproduced works.
In “Sky and Water I”, Escher arranges a progression of forms: at the top, birds flying in the sky; at the bottom, fish swimming in water; and in the middle, a transition zone where birds turn into fish, or vice-versa.
It uses the concept of tessellation or “regular division of the plane” — shapes that interlock without gaps or overlaps, a recurring theme in Escher’s work.
Escher described how, in the central strip, birds and fish are “equivalent to each other” — they swap figure and ground depending on how you look
