Stunning cherry red half morocco with corners, smooth spine richly decorated with a large Orientalist-style mosaic fleur-de-lis, gilt dotted borders, four gilt crescents and four gilt stars at the angles, the author and title are elegantly embellished in gilt, and the gilt thread and patterned velvet paper on the covers and untrimmed gilt top edge add a touch of luxury. Original covers preserved. Bound by Flammarion Vaillant, a renowned French bookbinder famed for luxurious demi-maroquin bindings richly decorated with gilt tooling and mosaic designs, perfectly reflecting the book’s Orientalist elegance. A true masterpiece, beautifully illustrated with 49 colour compositions, including 26 full-page illustrations, based on the work of the Italian painter Fausto Zonaro (1854 - 1929). Zonaro settled at the court of Sultan Abdülhamid II in Istanbul, where he became the official court painter.

Fausto Zonaro described his joy at the publication of his book as follows: "Amidst all the excitement, my book Déri Sé'adet was published. It is the seed that I sowed generously in the field that I had watered with meticulous, tireless effort for twenty years.”

Zonaro’s illustrations perfectly complement Thalasso’s text. Limited to just 300 copies, one of 258 on Blanchet & Kléber vellum paper (no. 131), the only paper after 42 Japanese paper.
