San Francesco d’Assisi by Giuseppe Ducrot, a limited edition leather-bound art book in Italian of 364 pages, published by FMR in 2008.
Description from the seller
San Francesco d’Assisi – Unstamped Rule. Stamped Rule. The Little Flowers of Saint Francis. Specimen no. 956 of 975.
This prestigious volume gathers three foundational texts of Franciscan spirituality: the unapproved Rule (1221), the approved Rule (1223), and The Little Flowers of Saint Francis.
The preface, by Fr. José Rodríguez Carballo, then General Minister of the Order of Friars Minor, introduces the work with an intense reflection on the figure of Saint Francis of Assisi as a timeless model of fraternity, evangelical poverty, commitment, and openness to the world.
The edition, crafted with the usual mastery of the FMR Art’è publishing house, is bilingual (Italian-Spanish) and enriched with 92 illustrated plates that celebrate the great artistic era inspired by the Saint — from Giotto to Caravaggio — restoring to the reader the visual and spiritual strength of the Franciscan tradition.
In Fioretti, the simple and popular tone of the story of origins is found, where miracles, conversions, and everyday brotherhood become a vivid testimony of Francesco's charisma. Carballo's preface highlights its surprising relevance today, based on fraternity, stewardship of creation, sobriety, and compassion towards the humble. Material characteristics
Printed in a limited edition, the volume consists of 364 large-format pages (45 × 32.5 cm), designed to highlight the graphic layout and artistic reproductions. It is a true art book, emblematic of that sacred beauty that combines spirituality and exceptional editorial craftsmanship.
The binding is made of natural leather 'Veau Aniline', dyed in a deep red in a barrel, handcrafted according to the tradition of fine bookbinding. The volume is housed in an elegant case specifically designed for the collection.
On the cover, a metallic plate engraved by Giuseppe Ducrot stands out, titled Studio I – San Francesco (24 × 35 cm), executed in 800/1000 silver in bas-relief, depicting the Saint in a praying posture. At the corners of the front plate, decorative silver friezes, finely handcrafted, are applied, demonstrating the high level of artisanal care in the edition.
Editorial notes
The volume was published in a single edition under the direction of Marilena Ferrari, published by FMR Editore, Bologna, 2008.
