(*) Gustav Klimt, born in 1862 near Vienna, is one of the great protagonists of Art Nouveau, also known as Jugendstil. Trained at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts, he soon developed a unique style combining the figurative and the ornamental. After co-founding the Künstlercompagnie, he rose to prominence at the Burgtheater in 1886. Deeply affected by the loss of his father and brother, in 1897 he participated in the creation of the Vienna Secession, which became a landmark of the movement. Klimt exhibited bold works there before continuing his journey by founding the Austrian Federation of Artists in 1905. Until his death in 1918, he enriched Art Nouveau with a rich, sensual, and decorative style, leaving a lasting mark on art history.
