Charming illustrated edition of the novel by R. Kipling (1865-1936), first published as a serial in Pearsons Magazine between 1896 and 1897, then translated and published in French in 1903.
Decorated with 12 color compositions by Guy Arnoux.
One of the 1,050 copies printed on vellum from Aussedat papermakers, this one numbered 670.
Conserved in a lovely cherry half-leather binding, with a spine decorated with gold-lettered title and the date at the foot. Gilt head. Covers and spine preserved.
In very good condition. Sturdy and clean binding, slightly sun-darkened spine, and tiny scuffs on the headcap. Interior impeccable.
The story describes the encounter of a fourteen-year-old millionaire's son, Harvey Cheyne, with fishermen from the Grand Bank of Newfoundland. The young boy falls into the water during an Atlantic crossing and is rescued by the fishermen. He then learns their trade and eventually reunites with his family, who believed him drowned.
