Dalle de consécration d’autel en marbre noir – avec cavité reliquaire et relique scellée - France ou États pontificaux, XVIIe – début XVIIIe siècle

Rare dalle liturgique en marbre noir fossilifère taillée et gravée à la main, destinée à couronner un autel consacré selon les normes tridentines.
 
Elle présente cinq croix gravées (symbolisant les cinq Plaies du Christ), réparties aux quatre coins et au centre de la dalle – disposition canonique des cruces consecrationis utilisées lors des rites de dédicace. 

En son centre, une cavité reliquaire (ou sepulcrum) a été découpée et jadis scellée, renfermant sans doute les reliques d’un ou plusieurs martyrs, condition nécessaire à la validité de la messe selon la liturgie catholique romaine ancienne. 

Cette dalle a sans doute été déposée d’un autel lors de la réforme post-conciliaire, ou lors du démantèlement d’une chapelle privée ou monastique.
 
Dimensions : 35 cm x 30 cm
 
État : Belle usure liturgique, surface légèrement rayée, quelques éclats anciens, très belle patine minérale
