"Celebrated photographer Ugo Mulas produced a remarkable body of work. This volume presents a selection of his most powerful images, documenting the diverse directions of his career. Among Mulas's first works are portrayals of Milan's café society in the early 1950s. His photographs of the Venice Biennale starting in 1958 reveal his interest in painting and sculpture. Fascinated by the arts, Mulas befriended a generation of artists working in New York in the 1960s - Jasper Johns, Claes Oldenburg, Robert Rauschenberg, Andy Warhol, Frank Stella, and others - capturing them at work and relaxing with their friends. Some of these photographs were collected in his well known book, New York: The New Art Scene, portraying sixteen artists."
