There are two brands of Barré bicycles, the E. Barré bicycles in Barentin and the M. Barré bicycles in Niort.
On this remarkable poster, nothing can resist the Barré bicycles, not the police, nor the cobblestones; dogs and poultry are crushed in their path. The iconography is chaotic, and the bicycle is likened to a fairground object.
In 1888, Barré opened his shop in Paris. He was then a bicycle rental and manufacturing business, listed in the directory as a 'Factory of velocipedes and special workshop for nickel plating and enameling.'
The brand also manufactures motorized tricycles and quadricycles, then is acquired by Guiller factories.
If we find a Mr. Barré in Niort, we also find a G. Barré in the same region at Partenay, who manufactured bicycles and also arquebuses.
