AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Original drawings from Marten Toonder Studios have always been very rare, and that will never change. On December 1, 2010, the cultural heritage of Marten Toonder (all the work that Marten Toonder himself created) was officially transferred by the heirs to the Letterkundig Museum Leiden and has since been owned by the Dutch State. In November 2018, the archive of the Marten Toonder Studios was donated to the Literature Museum in The Hague and the Eye Filmmuseum in Amsterdam. See the last photo. The chance of original drawings coming onto the market is therefore very unlikely.

General;
Jan van Haasteren began his career at advertising agency Grijseels, after which he got a job at Nijgh & Van Ditmar. Jan worked as an assistant to Loek van Delden on the comic Smidje Verholen, making his debut as a comic artist. His career as a comic artist truly took off when Jan started working at the Marten Toonder Studios. Jan made a switch to Geesink Studio, where he worked in the Geesink Artists department and contributed to Rick de Kikker. Additionally, Jan continued working as a freelancer for Toonder Studios. In 1967, he transitioned to freelance drawing and worked from home. Jan contributed to comics such as Kappie and Tom Poes. He also created many strips for Donald Duck, including the Boze Wolf, Donald Duck, Ketelbinkie, and Hiawatha. During this period, his own work also gained more prominence. Jan collaborated with many people and drew numerous comics and advertising posters. His work is extensively described in the book "Jan van Haasteren: From Comic Artist to Puzzle Phenomenon." In 2006, Jan was honored by Het Stripschap with the ‘Bulletje en Boonestaak Schaal,’ and in 2013, he was knighted in the Order of Orange-Nassau.
For the comic magazines Sjors and Eppo, Jan brought Tinus Trotyl to life. Tinus Trotyl has a pathological love for explosions; one of his characteristic sayings is: 'No words, just explosions.' The comic is considered one of the first Dutch family comics. It led Jan to start drawing posters, which eventually resulted in the world-famous Jan van Haasteren jigsaw puzzles.

The strip
Aafje Anders is a Dutch newspaper comic strip from the Toonder Studio's, conceived and written by Andries Brandt. The strip was drawn by Jan van Haasteren and later by the British artist Robert Hamilton, with Richard Klokkers providing the backgrounds. The comic follows the adventures of eighteen-year-old Aafje, who lives in the rural and somewhat dull Mikkum with her inventive grandfather. Aafje constantly tries to see if things can be different. Her attempts to chase away boredom pose a serious threat to the rural peace. The stories mostly take place in Amsterdam. The strip was the successor to Horre, Harm, and Hella. The newspaper De Telegraaf had asked the creators of that strip to come up with something lighter in its place. Unlike Horre, Harm, and Hella, Aafje Anders is not a text comic but a comic strip with speech balloons.

Original work by Jan van Haasteren is rare and is seldom offered.
